33 days

Today is my birthday. To mark my 33 years (yes, I'm revealing my age to all of blogland out there) I've decided to take a page from one of my favourite mama bloggers and share with you 33 days of my life in pictures.

: : A cake from my mama. She told me today that no matter old I get, I would always be her baby.

This was sent to me recently and I'm sure some of you have read it before elsewhere. But I had to share because it's all so true. I've done, felt and cherished all of these moments and more.

Before I was a mom...
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunization.

Before I was a Mom…I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.

I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom…I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests, or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom…I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put him down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom…I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom…I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was a Mom.

There's so much to celebrate that I count my blessings every time I pick my babe up from her crib each morning.

getting back into the swing

With the holidays over and finally settling back into a regular work routine, I've been wondering how to balance my mompreneur adventure. I don't want to let that part of my new life slide as I've been fortunate to meet so many wonderful women.

So on that note, just an update on what's been happening. I'm pleased to welcome a few more friends to the FlowerPot Designs family.

Sweet Memories Quilts
I met Jenn at the Children's Trunk Show last November. She's a mother, an expert quilter (who's shared her expertise with me so I can take a stab at making a toddler quilt for Baby K in the not so distant future) and a knitting enthusiast. I'm pleased to partner with her and offer my collection of organic knit animals to her loyal customer base. Check out her blog and web site!

Bare Bones Clothing & Accessories
Angela opened her doors in Innisfail, Alberta in the New Year. Among her collection of children's wear and accessories, my collection of clips will be a part of her regular line-up. Congrats Angie and good luck with the shop!

Raising Rascals
I met Kathleen and Coreen at the Mom2Mom Holiday Show last November when they were still organizing, dreaming and preparing for their joint venture. Now they will launch a new online kids shop in February and I'm excited to join their opening day with a selection of hair clips. Check in later for launch details!

So the juggling act begins for me now, but I'm excited and ready for the challenge of figuring out how it will all come together - family, work and staying creative!

sweetie cake

I had to share this sweet cake with all of you. A special gift from my friend E. She thinks of everything! It's absolutely the perfect tribute to my little creative pursuit. Thanks so much! I absolutely love it!

Here's a closer look at little Peanut and Daisy. The detail put into the design amazes me. And, the cake itself - delish! It took me a while to cut into it but when I did, it was chocolate heaven! I've saved the little doll recreations. I couldn't bear to bite into them. Thanks hon! You're the best!

happy birthday

Baby K is officially one year old!

This morning when she woke, I was eager to pick her up, kiss her and wish her a very happy birthday. To her, it was just like any other day, but to me, it's her biggest milestone yet. Today marks the first day of this crazy and wonderful journey of motherhood for me.

I remember back at my first thoughts when she was born: "What a sweet, BIG baby with an awesome set of lungs and so much hair!" I remember the first 3 days at the hospital as we got to know each other. She slept a lot then and I thought: "Well this wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be." Little did I know that would change after a couple of weeks.

As each month passed, I marvelled at how much she's grown, learned and changed not realizing how much I have grown, learned and changed as well. My life is richer now; my priorities different.

Being back to work full time, I've missed some important milestones - like her first steps. According to my mom, she took 3 wobbly steps on her own a few days ago. But, although I missed these things, I'm lucky she's sharing them with her grandma instead. Now, I'm always eager to get home, anticipating her smile as hubby and I walk through the door. It's wonderful to see her face light up when she sees us.

One year... a lot has happened in one year, but it goes so quickly. Happy Birthday to my sweet babe!

party like a rock star

This past weekend, Baby K had her very first party with all her little friends. It was a very full two hours of indoor fun! K had a fantastic time - and so did we!

: : tossing the ball around

: : hanging out with little friends

: : riding the slide with daddy (over and over again!)

: : getting her first taste of sugar - a mini cupcake in fact!

There was also lots of cupcake love happening that day.

: : from the giant cupcake cake and minis, courtesy of the talented Anna at Dreemkaggs

: : to the hand knit cupcake decorations (pattern from Leigh Radford's book) made especially for the party

: : and even in some of the wonderful and generous gifts Baby K received that day.

And at the end of the day, she promptly passed out on the car ride home.

Thanks to everyone who made this day special for our babe. We love you all!
